The Beginning

I want to introduce you to blogging! Blogging is very much like a journal but instead of using pencil and paper to write your thoughts you use a keyboard and computer. Another very important difference between a journal and a blog is that a journal is kept private (unless your baby brothers and sisters get a hold of it..) and a blog is open for everyone to read. This blog has a theme...know what it is?? MATH of course! I will be writing the blogs (or journal entries) for now. I will write about things I have learned, have excited me, made me confused, or weirded me out about math concepts. Your job is simple- read my blogs and write a comment. I will show you how to make a comment. Everyone in class will be able to read your comment so make sure they are interesting. I won't be grading your comments but I will be making sure you comment at least once a week. Also, select your answer to the poll question on the right side of the blog. A poll, is a question with no right answer, it is just interested in your opinion only. Usually a poll will show how many people have selected each answer so they can be interesting to look at.

Math Moves U

While looking around the internet I found a fun math website called Math Moves U. It has games, you get to design your own character and nickname and you can build up points by solving problems. I enjoy websites like this because they make math fun and a lot of the math activities have to do with real life which is great! Why is real-life math so great you ask?? Well, for me, math is more meaningful if I can see where I will use it in THE FUTURE. The future...what is that going to look like for you?? What do you want to be? What kind of job will make you happy? What kind of person do you want to be? Those are deep questions...but they are important ones to ask yourself now when your possibilities are end-less. Yes....end-less...yahoo! It's an exciting time for you so I encourage you to make the most of your learning and have fun! On the Math Moves U website (the website link is in my list at the bottom of the main screen, just click on it to take you to the site), I want you to sign-up, make a character, and play a game or two. Make a comment to this post describing how you used both math and a real-life situation.
